Though intellectually we know that our valley has been inhabited for millennia, in the bustle of daily life this is easily forgotten. Sometimes though you can be confronted with unmistakeable evidence.


A clear out of the cellar of a house in Saint Martin d’Orb revealed a niche which, on closer inspection, contained a rather unexpected secret.


What is it exactly? Possibly part of a menhir, which would date it to about 2,700 BC or, and more likely, a stela from the iron age (about 700 BC). We await an expert’s opinion!
